We know some of you may be concerned about the spread of COVID-19 (the novel coronavirus) being reported in the media and how it may impact us here at Charlesgate. Currently, we are not aware of any reported or confirmed cases in any Charlesgate properties.
It is important to remain calm but pay close attention to the guidance being offered by the CDC. Charlesgate will post CDC guidance on its Facebook page and website. Please visit the website at www.charlesgate.net. The actions we are taking are out of an abundance of caution to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Ensuring residents are served in a safe and healthy environment is our greatest concern. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have recommended a variety of steps that we are implementing to help reduce the potential for the virus to enter our building. However, we need your help in battling COVID-19. Below are some examples of how we can help protect each other and prevent the spread throughout the community.
In addition to practicing good hand hygiene, the CDC recommends calling your medical providers if you experience any symptoms of respiratory illness so that you can follow the correct infectious disease protocol before visiting a medical facility. Those symptoms include cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose, and/or shortness of breath.
We are posting CDC posters on our entryway doors to notify visitors of the symptoms of COVID-19. While we understand that connecting with family members and friends is incredibly important, we recommend that you connect virtually (through skype, Facebook, text, and telephone) with visitors who present with symptoms. Staff can assist with technical questions you may have for this purpose. In the event a visit is necessary, we ask that each visitor conduct a self-assessment to determine if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19. If a visitor is showing symptoms, we strongly urge you not to let them in the building. The presence of COVID-19 in the building will be far more disruptive to your daily routine than delaying a visit.
Please be advised that Charlesgate Nursing Center is not permitting visitors at this time. If there is an urgent need to visit, please contact the Nursing home at (401) 861-5858 to discuss available options.
You have probably already heard the term “social distancing.” Social distancing is one of the strategies the CDC is recommending to help fight the spread of COVID-19. To assist you in this strategy, Charlesgate is encouraging you to communicate with the building staff by phone when possible. If your building staff is not available, you are able to call work orders into the Main Office at (401) 453-9300. In a further effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, we are addressing work orders on an emergency basis. Please continue to report work orders as needed, building staff will contact you to communicate an expected completion time.
We also recommend that you avoid crowds in the laundry room areas. To further help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and in conjunction with CDC’s requests to practice social distancing, we are closing the community rooms and Television Rooms until March 30, 2020. At that time, we will reassess the need for this measure.
Lastly, we recommend that residents prepare their households by stocking up on important supplies, including medications. Your Service Coordinator can help refer you to community organizations for assistance with food, transportation, and health services as needed. Charlesgate is in close contact with the local and state health departments and is following their guidance. We will notify you if any residents or staff report a COVID-19 diagnosis. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at: Charlesgate North Apartments, (401) 453-9300.
